Following in your parents footsteps couldn’t be easier, especially when you have inherited their talent and drive. Lela Alomar daughter of Robin Clark, an original member of the 1970’s group Chic, and daughter of Carlos Alomar, former band leader and guitarist for David Bowie can attest to this theory. Lela, whose stage name is Alo (which was created by dropping the m.a.r from her last name) went straight from the potty to the microphone at the early age of 2. Her background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz and Music sets her apart from many others in the music business, both past and present. With the influences of her parents many would think that the road to stardom would be a piece a cake for Alo, but the tale of the tape has shown that she is still paying her dues. At the age of 10 Alo was singing in commercials. Later she would find herself singing backup for artists, such as Mary J. Bilge, Brandy and a Japanese group called Dreams Come True. Today Alo is working on her solo project, which she describes as a cross between Soul and Jazz. “My Music is very mellow and medicating, I just talk about what I know”, and what she knows is that with a little hard work she could soon see herself being compared to some of her favorite singers Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn. “There’s a lot of good music out there, but a lot of people don’t know that because they are brain washed into thinking what ever the local radio stations are playing is the only good music”. Well Alo hopes to one day change people’s perception when she shares her music with the world. |
